Book Awards

It is awards season in the literary world. Just like the with Academy Awards and the Golden Globes for film, books have their own set of awards and honors. It can be a very nerve wracking time for hopeful authors and publishers.

Coffeetown Press and I decided to enter One Gay American in more contests than we did Shorn: Toys to Men. Even if a book doesn’t win, it is great for publicity.

One Gay American is entered in:

**LAMBDA Literary Awards in the Gay Memoir/Biography category. A short list of finalist to be announced on March 15.

**The Publishing Triangle in The Randy Shilts Award for Gay Nonfiction category. Finalists announced in March.

**The Ben Franklin Book Awards in the LGBT category. Finalists announced in April.

**Independent Publisher Book Awards (The Ippy) in the GLBT Non-Fiction category. Finalists announced April 30.

**The Washington State Book Awards sponsored by the Seattle Public Library in the Biography/Memoir category. The awards take place in the fall.

Next week I will enter both One Gay American and Shorn: Toys to Men in The National Indie Excellence Book Awards. OGA in the Gay, Lesbian and Transgendered Non-Fiction category and Shorn in the Sexuality category. Winners announced May 15.
